Pesticides, cereal farming and the environment : the Boxworth project

See all formats and editions

Initially greeted with scepticism, the Boxworth Project now marks an important watershed in research and attitudes towards the environmental impact of the heavy use of pesticides by cereal farmers.

This MAFF experiment was planned in the late 1970s and continued through the 1980s.

The results both demonstrate a variety of complex ecological effects arising from pesticide use and point the way towards safer, yet economically viable, systems of farming. Because of the unique nature of the Boxworth Project and the great influence it has had on other studies and the use of the "whole-farm" approach, this volume has been published in response to demand for a non-technical overview.
