"Atkin's Court Forms" is a complete collection of the forms and precedents required in civil proceedings before the courts of England and Wales.

The material is arranged alphabetically in some 140 subjects or titles, each of which contains an introduction to the law and procedure, followed by procedural tables and fully annotated forms.

Contributors to each title are recruited from those with established experience and expertise in the practical aspects of litigation in the subject area concerned, and the material is organized and co-ordinated by Butterworth's legally qualified editorial staff.

The forms and precedents are set out with full cross-references to the appropriate paragraph in the explanatory text where references to the appropriate case and statute law and to the relevant rules of court or other procedural rules and directions may be found.

The kind of information needed to complete the forms and degree of detail required are always made clear.

Each text volume has its own index and tables of cases, rules and statutes, and the whole work is cross-referenced. The work is kept up to date by the issues each Spring of a cumulative Supplement, which records all alterations in practice, setting out new forms and amending existing ones.

Later in the year subscribers receive a Service Booklet which notes further changes and is consolidated, in due course, in the subsequent Supplement.

Important changes in law and practice are absorbed in the main work by the periodic reissue of a selection of text volumes each year.

This enables material previously published in the Supplement to be incorporated in the encyclopaedia and prevents the Supplement becoming unwieldy and difficult to use.

This is particularly necessary for certain titles, eg Landlord and Tenant, Divorce and Trade, Labour and Employment, where legislation is virtually continuous.

Whenever a volume is reissued the opportunity is taken to reconsider, and where necessary, re-write all titles it contains, and also to incorporate new ones in developing areas of law and practice such as Financial Services (Vol 19(2)) and Judicial Review (Vol 23). Furthermore, it is the publisher's intention to reissue the volumes most affected by the Civil Justice Review as soon as the resulting legislation comes into effect.
