A Just Defense of the Natural Freedom of Slaves : All Slaves Should be Free (1682)

See all formats and editions

This work presents a translation of one voice crying out against the evils of slavery - few of these voices existed in the Roman Catholic Church of the Americas in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Slave-owners refused to listen, but if they did, they defended and supported slavery.

Those who spoke up were often silenced by state and church officials.

The main contribution of this work is to make available a unique text in both transcription and translation that reviews and refutes a series of arguments used in colonial times to support slavery.
