American teen vampire fantasy. The film is set in a world where vampires have fully integrated themselves into society and have become accepted into everyday life.

However, the many different races of vampire means that the vampires themselves are not always accepting of each other.

Rose Hathaway (Zoey Deutch), who is a Dhampir - meaning she is half-human, half-vampire - is training to be a guardian for her good friend and member of the royal Moroi bloodline, Lissa Dragomir (Lucy Fry).

As they return to the boarding school they left two years previously, they soon discover that a war is brewing between themselves and the Strigoi, a malevolent and bloodthirsty group of vampires.

Who will gain the upper hand?
