John Laurens should have died on the 27th of August, 1782.

After a failed skirmish at Combahee River, John Laurens is invited to live with his dearest friend, Alexander Hamilton, in New York City. They study the law at King's College together and dream of becoming avid members of congress so they may continue fighting the good fight for America.

However, on John Laurens' 28th birthday, his vision for the future changes immensely when he discovers he is expected to raise his daughter, Frances Eleanor Laurens, all by himself. He wonders whether this is divine punishment for hiding such sinful secrets or a miraculous blessing from providence.
