Kirra really wants Johnny Cakes, but there's no flour left in Mama's dilly bag! Will she collect the seeds, grind them into flour and do all the things her Mama needs to make them?

A story about the recognition of Australia's first nation peoples long history of farming and breadmaking, told through the eyes of a young girl named Kirra.

First Australians traditionally farmed all sorts of crops (grass, millet, yams, bananas, nuts and many others). They tended these crops for food and even to make bread! The author of this book only learnt that Aboriginal people were breadmaking farmers when he was practically an old fella, because no one taught this when he was a kid!

Whilst educating himself more about the Australian first nation peoples, the author wrote this book in the hope that more kids will grow up knowing these important historical facts to help it become common knowledge in emerging generations.

This fictional book is not specific to any tribe and definitely over simplifies how much work would be involved to make bread from grass seeds.
