The main character in the series is a perfect example of why people should not make assumptions about other people.

Having been raised in a dysfunctional environment left her both with some emotional scars and a means to cope with them.

Means that would surprise others. Understanding the different layers of not only her but of the people she calls her friends lends credit to the phrase: 'Every cripple has their own way of walking'.
