This volume publishes and illustrates over 1,000 English coins from the Norman Conquest to the coinage reform of Edward I.

They are spread over 16 museums, ranging from the National Museums of Scotland to civic museums such as Ayr, Eyemouth and Dunfermline.

The most outstanding collection is that of Dr William Hunter (1718-83) in Glasgow University's Hunterian Museum.

This renowned cabinet contains a superb group of coins from William I to Stephen, including some of the greatest rarity.

The other major Scottish collection is that of the National Museums.

Its strength lies in the later issues, Henry II to Edward I, thus complementing the holdings of the Hunterian.

This volume will be a fundamental source for those interested in Norman coinage and in the Short and Long Cross coinages alike.
