This volume explores the ways in which both theosophy and yoga base spiritual progress on the deepest possible understanding of the nature of life  - that it exists as a single unity.

This volume is part of a series of writings, collected under the banner ‘Modern Theosophy’ re-presenting important texts drawn from the history of the theosophical movement and complemented by texts from contemporary authors and innovative thinkers.

Jenny Baker is the President of the Theosophical Society in England. She joined the society in 1981 after attending a yoga weekend. She was particularly struck by the first object of the Theosophical Society - the formation of a nucleus of the universal brotherhood of humanity without distinction of race, creed, sex, caste or colour.

Annie Besant was a women’s rights activist, supporter of Irish independence, socialist, author and International President of the Theosophical Society from 1907 until her death in 1933. Besant’s many works include The Nature of Yoga reproduced in this volume (one of four lectures on the topic) and Theosophy and the Search for Happiness (1918) also available in the Modern Theosophy series.

The Theosophical Society was founded in 1875 to explore the interconnectedness of all life, the universal wisdoms held in ancient religions and myths, and the potential  latent in human beings.
